I'd encourage Stranahan to pursue that side of the story.  The baby story is irrelevant in the sense that Edwards has already been exposed as a liar and a deceiver.  If he was lying about his being the father, it does not matter much.  It'd only be gilding the lily of his malfeasance and mendacity.  (Alliteration owns your soul!)

By the way - go have a look at Rielle Hunter's videos.  They aren't anywhere's near as 'bad' as everyone's been making out.  I'd say they were quite good, actually - and they do as advertized: they show John Edwards unexpurgated.  Unfortunately - the picture's often not very pretty - though John evidently thinks HE is.  Watch him near any reflective surfaces.

The next time I hear anything even remotely resembling "I supported John Edwards with everything I had and now I am SO disappointed in him!!!" I am going to be tempted to throw up.

It is not "John Edwards' " fault.

I swear, he more resembled a cartoonish Dukes Of Hazard-type southern pol than he did a real national contender even back when he was playing Robin to Small K kerry's lame Batman. More beige than black, actually, but in America that's just about enough to disqualify most people from contention with the big dogs, and it is to Obama's credit that he has the talent and intelligence to get on up to where he is today. He wasn't exactly born with a silver spoon in his mouth, after all.  Just a VERY good brain.

I am telling you...NOW...that every day this asshole gets ink is another nail in Obama's electoral coffin.

Why?

How?

Because Obama'S popularity is all about them squeaky clean, smart young Dems who are going to turn things around with their intelligence and moral rectitude, that's why.

As opposed of course to the criminal, sexually warped motherfuckers who are now in power.

That's all he has to run on.

He has no real record to speak of, he's just a really smart, young, well spoken guy who is saying "Yes, we CAN clean this mess up."

And here we have this Edwards sleazeball leaving a rapidly lengthening trail of slime over the entire operation.

These elections are about the undecideds, Maryscott. Special interest groups are going to vote for whomever most resembles them and/or whomever promises their sector of the society further prosperity.

But the undecideds?

THEY hold the key.

And in my view many of them...people in the working class, white, non-particularly racist sector (which almost perfectly describes many of my relatives and their friends in New England and could very easily be extended to the midwestern corn 'n cattle  belt as well)...many of them are disgusted with the immorality of the Republicans.

NOT with their policies, just with their inability to take care of line-level business because they are too busy lapping up the fat of the land...dicks in one hand, bank accounts in the other...to be bothered with real work.

And here comes this faux populist cretin to blow the whole image.

He's young; he already ran for Vice-Preznit with that asshole from Boston; he appeared on the same stage as the other two major Dem candidates during the debates and was accorded pretty much the same respect as were they...a lot MORE respect from the leftiness brigade than was ever offered to HRC...and now it turns out that he is running many of the same games as the Rats that need to be thrown out.

Shit splashes, Maryscott. And it is currently splashing all over Obama.

So I repeat...

FLUSH THE MOTHERFUCKER AND BE DONE WITH IT.

And please please please try not to make the same mistake again. Without John Boy it would have been a two candidate primary race, and perhaps things would be different now. Maybe they'd actually be running on the same ticket, Obama and Clinton, and the landslide would be continuing apace.

And don't scream at me about her terminal cancer diagnosis.  I have one of those of my very own.  As crazy as cancer can drive a person at times, I'm hard pressed to forgive the woman.

SHE KNEW ABOUT THIS TRAIN WRECK AND SHE SUPPORTED HIS CANDIDACY ANYWAY?

Most women forgive a husband's infidelity.  When you really love someone, you can forgive a lot.  Good for her.  Good for their marriage and their family.  His 'mistake' does not make him unforgiveable.  But in our neo-Puritan political environment, it surely does make him unelectable.  As a southern woman, she should know that as well as anybody.  And all the elaborate efforts to keep the secret are a clear indication that both of them KNEW what exposure would mean.

So, the one person he might have listened to, who might have prevented a doomsday scenario for the party and for the country should he have been nominated, went all out to encourage him to run.  Because nothing was more important than getting her husband to the White House.  As Howard Dean once said...AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHH!

And to think that I once considered Hilary Clinton to be the only suicide bomber in the party.  Well, she and Elizabeth can start a club. We can only hope and pray that the Edwards will both slink quietly away now and leave us alone.

And Arthur, I am shocked to agree with you but you are right when you point out that much of Edward's support came from people who didn't want Hilary but who were afraid a black man couldn't be elected.  But you are wrong about this scandal hurting Obama.  Because if we are really going to talk about philandering husbands, it's kind of hard to go there without John and Cindy being mentioned.
